Working in collage has proven both an act of whimsy and evasive strategy. Selected as one of 12 artists from across the U.S. and Canada for Collage Artist Lab, designed in partnership with the Special Collections Gallery at Tulane University to foster the integration of history and civic discourse into an artist’s practice.

While I first encountered the world of slipcasting and kilns with my grandmother at just age six, I wouldn’t revisit it again until 35 years later. A grant from the National Endowment for the Arts kicked off a collaboration to create in this new to me medium, and I’ve continued to explore ways to mix both vintage and new viewpoints in bodies of work.

The Bruises collection was inspired by my grandmother, Ruth Ellsworth.
